MO FARAH will compete over 5,000m today after a stomach virus forced him to cancel last night’s much-anticipated showdown with distance legend Kenenisa Bekele.

Double Olympic champion Farah had planned to face 10,000m world record-holder Bekele over the longer distance in Eugene last night as he warms up for this summer’s World Championships.

But after being ill in midweek he has opted to race the 5,000m tonight at the two day PreFontaine Classic meeting.

It means he will face his American training partner Galen Rupp, who took 10,000m silver in London, the Olympic 5,000m bronze medallist Thomas Longosiwa from Kenya and former world champion Bernard Lagat.

Farah, who won Olympic 10,000m and 5,000m gold in London last summer, has not been beaten outdoors in a final since Ethiopian Ibrahim Jeilan pipped him on the last lap to world 10,000m gold in Daegu, South Korea two years ago.

He is aiming to defend his 5,000m title and add the 10,000m crown at the World Championships in Moscow in August.
