The competition to finish as high as possible in the Premier League table is fiercer than ever, tougher than ever and more expensive than ever. 

The difference between winning and losing can be the difference between tens of millions of pounds. Premier League television rights are escalating into billions of pounds and everyone wants to be a part of it.

There will be hundreds of millions of pounds spent in this summer’s transfer window when the top clubs and their billionaire owners splash out and the rest of the league try to keep up.

Sportsmail takes you through who could be coming and going when the window opens on July 1.

Aim: Don’t Arsenal aim for the top four every season? Unless Arsene Wenger spends big they are unlikely to challenge at the very top, but the usual Champions League qualification will be their priority again.

Kitty: £70million – Wenger has been backed by the board with at least that figure.

Kitty: £100m – out-going interim boss Rafa Benitez claimed favourite to succeed him Jose Mourinho will be handed a huge war chest.

Aim: Survival is the only thing on the agenda for Ian Holloway’s side after their surprise promotion. Will be strong favourites for the drop.

Kitty: £8-15m – Palace’s owners are not short of cash but they have made it clear that investing in the club’s infrastructure is their priority.

Kitty: £5m – can’t see them getting busy in the transfer market unless they receive huge sums for their star players

Kitty: £100m – reports back in January suggested Sir Alex Ferguson had as much as £120m to spend in the summer, and successor David Moyes won’t have much short of that.
