The competition to finish as high as possible in the Premier League table is fiercer than ever, tougher than ever and more expensive than ever.Â
The difference between winning and losing can be the difference between tens of millions of pounds. Premier League television rights are escalating into billions of pounds and everyone wants to be a part of it.
There will be hundreds of millions of pounds spent in this summer’s transfer window when the top clubs and their billionaire owners splash out and the rest of the league try to keep up.
Sportsmail takes you through who could be coming and going when the window opens on July 1.
£34m man: Fernandinho signing for Manchester City is the biggest transfer of the summer so far
Arsenal
Last season’s finish: 4th
Aim: Don’t Arsenal aim for the top four every season? Unless Arsene Wenger spends big they are unlikely to challenge at the very top, but the usual Champions League qualification will be their priority again.
Kitty: £70million – Wenger has been backed by the board with at least that figure.

Aim: The disastrous relegation struggle last season cannot be repeated again. They are still building around a young squad so a comfortable mid-table finish will be a success.
Kitty: £6m – not known as big spenders, the focus is very much on the core of youth in the first team.

Aim: It seems owner Roman Abramovich’s minimum requirement is a Premier League title and Champions League trophy. Even then, you wouldn’t be surprised if the manager got the chop.
Kitty: £100m – out-going interim boss Rafa Benitez claimed favourite to succeed him Jose Mourinho will be handed a huge war chest.

Aim: Survival is the only thing on the agenda for Ian Holloway’s side after their surprise promotion. Will be strong favourites for the drop.
Kitty: £8-15m – Palace’s owners are not short of cash but they have made it clear that investing in the club’s infrastructure is their priority.

Aim: Top half. They have consistently finished mid-table, mainly creeping into the top half, and it’ll be same again.
Kitty: £10m – Fulham have already made a few signings on the quiet but Martin Jol will have money to spend on bigger names.

Aim: The title. Failing to win it for a second year running cost Roberto Mancini his job. The owners would want at least one other cup as well.
Kitty: £100m – Incoming manager Manuel Pellegrini has already set out plans to spend close to £90m and don’t expect it to stop there.

Aim: David Moyes has been told he will be given plenty of time to grow into his new job but supporters used to success will be expecting another title.
Kitty: £100m – reports back in January suggested Sir Alex Ferguson had as much as £120m to spend in the summer, and successor David Moyes won’t have much short of that.

Who they might lose: Wayne Rooney, Luis Nani, Anders Lindegaard

Newcastle United
Last season’s finish: 16th
Aim: Boss Alan Pardew is confident he can lead the club back towards the top end of the table if he can bring in a couple of strikers. Top eight would be the aim.
Kitty: £15m – following last season’s dire end to the season it’s unlikely owner Mike Ashley will back Pardew heavily.

Aim: New manager Mauricio Pochettino will get his first chance at a full pre-season and start to the campaign and will target an ambitious top eight finish.Â
Kitty: £15m – executive chairman Nicola Cortese threatened to leave if the Liebherr family who control the trust that owns the club didn’t support his ambitious plans in the transfer market, but they still won’t go crazy
