Somalia appeals for Palestinian statehood as it hands over chairmanship of Arab League

Somalia has called on the Arab League to stand with Palestine and support its efforts to become an independent state.

Addressing the final session of the Arab League council of Foreign Ministers as chair, Foreign Affairs Minister Isse Awad said the League must stand firm and push for an independent state in Palestine adding Palestine must also be get back Jerusalem as its capital city.

While handing back the chairmanship which now goes to Iraq, Awad also emphasised the need for member states to work together in diffusing conflicts in Syria Yemen and Libya.

Somalia which has been at the helm of the 22 member block also appealed for support to fight terrorism and restoration of peace and stability in the Horn of Africa nation.

Somali took over chairmanship of the Arab League in March.
