Manchester City are interested in an £18m move for Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo.Â
Negotiations are still to unfold but Manuel Pellegrini has identified the Spain international as a target to replace Carlos Tevez.
Pellegrini tried to sign Negredo while coach at Malaga but now, with relations good between City and Sevilla due to director of football Txiki Begiristain and the purchase of Jesus Navas, the City manager wants to try again.
Target: Alvaro Negredo is being lined up by Manchester City for an £18million transfer
Â
Negredo, 27, had been due to sign for Atletico Madrid this week but the deal stalled over the fee with Sevilla demanding £21.2m from their fierce La Liga rivals. President Jose Maria del Nido described the prospect of a move to Atletico as having ‘zero percent chance’ before confirming interest from England.
City have also considered Benfica’s Oscar Cardozo and Bayern Munich’s Mario Gomez who is talking to Fiorentina.
Â
Meanwhile, City’s second-choice goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon is prepared to see out the final year of his contract and leave on a free transfer next summer. Former City striker Roque Santa Cruz is to join Bologna.
