Olympic champion Mo Farah collapsed in sub zero temperatures after finishing second in the New York City half marathon, reports the Daily Mirror’s US Editor Chris Bucktin from New York.

The double gold medallist had earlier fell awkwardly at the nine mile mark losing several places but fought back to reclaim a place on the podium.

However as he crossed the line the dad-of-three fell to the ground sending paramedics rushing to his aid.

Witnesses said he appeared unconscious for several minutes before being taken away in a wheelchair for further checks.

After the race, which Mo was using as warm for his much-anticipated full debut in the London Marathon on April 13, said he was “sorry” after giving “110%”.

Reassuring his one million Twitter followers he wrote: “Hi guys..I’m doing ok..thanks for the concern.. disappointed with today.. I gave 110%.. couldn’t do any more… sorry guys….”

After being released by medics Mo brushed off his collapse.

He said: “I do remember sort of passing out.

“The last four miles I struggled a bit. I was pretty much seeing stars.

“I tried so hard in the race, taking a fall and then going through. But, yeah, I’m all right. It’s fine. It’s not a big deal.”
