Location: London with frequent travels to Istanbul and North America

Duration: Fulltime – 7 Months contract

Salary: £28,000

Background Information

Anti-Tribalism Movement is a London and Mogadishu based registered non-profit organisation which provides a range of services to people affected by the social inequalities of Tribalism. ATM’s vision and track record is based around a cohesive and active society where all people’s opinions is valued regardless of clan, gender, or political belief.

Project description

Somalia has been beset by one of the longest and most destructive crises in the post-Cold War era. The estimated ten million people of Somalia have endured twenty-three years of complete state collapse, periods of civil war, chronic insecurity, lawlessness and warlordism, extremism, massive displacement and the destruction of major cities. Therefore Anti-Tribalism Movement will convene a conference with 30 credible community leaders, scholars and Somali youth representatives in a highly publicized gathering during which they will discuss conflict resolution, extremism, violence, Somali traditions, Tribalism and Somalia’s future and hopefully issue a joint communique regarding each theme discussed. The Conference will take place in Istanbul with participants coming from all over the world and the project is 7 months long from planning to implementation and evaluation.

 

 

Position Description

The project Manager works directly under the supervision of the Managing Director and is responsible for the appropriate and successful implementation of all project activities with project Officer.

  • Delivering quality and successful project
  • In coordination with Project officer, liaise with stakeholders
  • Monitor and track operational performance
  • Manage large scale of monitoring and evaluation documentation
  •  Set and continually manage project expectations with project officer, Managing Director, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop communications and media plan
  • Travel frequent to meet potential participants and other stakeholders
  • Coordinate, overall management, delegation, and oversight of the project
  • Responsibility for managing project staff and other staff associated with the project
  • In coordination with Managing Director, liaise with the international community, funders and other stakeholders
  •  Ensure that staff receive the necessary support from ATM
  •  Lead and develop proposals for future initiatives including: narrative proposals, budgets, timelines, and staffing.
  • Develop direction and thinking for the overall program activities
  • Approve budgets, timelines, reports, and other implementation activities
  • Oversee the programs financial requirements, including compliance with the budgets, procurement, and authorize specific requests for expenditures
  • Other responsibilities associated with the management of the project and responsibilities delegated by the Managing Director

Qualification

  • Applicants should have degree in Social Sciences or Business (postgraduate preferred), business management; project Management and peace building, international development or similar field.
  • Previous work with a non-governmental organisation and a minimum of five (5) years within the Somali context
  • Previous management work with non-governmental organisation and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience
  • Proven track record of high profile successful projects
  • Advanced understanding of and knowledge of Somali conflict and current challenges
  • Significant knowledge of procedures, accountability frameworks and best practices
  •  Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively as well as to convey vision to others
  • Grant management system knowledge and Project report writting experience
  • Exceptional oral and written communications skills in English, Somali and a dynamic public speaker.
  • Understanding and acceptance of Anti-Tribalism Movement (ATM) core values of (Hear No Tribalism Speak No Tribalism)
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with accounting software packages
  • Extensive experience in the voluntary sector management or projects management
  •  Ability to manage media and public communications

  • Develop direction and thinking for the overall program activities
  • Monitor and track operational performance
  • Manage large scale documents
  • Set and continually manage project expectations with project Manager, volunteers and other stakeholders.
  • Develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents.
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Run day to day activities of the project
  • Travel frequent to meet potential participants and other stakeholders
  • Other responsibilities associated with the management of the project and responsibilities delegated by the Project Manager.

 

Qualification

  • Previous work with a non-governmental organisation and a minimum of three (3) years within the Somali context
  • Advanced understanding of and knowledge of Somali conflict and current challenges
  • Extensive experience in organising conferences
  • Proven track record of leadership and management skills, including managing diverse staff.
  • Significant knowledge of procedures, accountability frameworks and best practices
  • Substantial experience in logistics, including procurement, supply chain, fleet management & inventory
  •  Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively as well as to convey vision to others
  •  Exceptional oral and written communications skills in English, Somali and a dynamic public speaker.
  • Understanding and acceptance of Anti-Tribalism Movement (ATM) core values of (Hear No Tribalism Speak No Tribalism)
  • Capacity to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple competing demands efficiently in a challenging and fast paced environment
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
