Paul Moore: Too much talk about how many British players play. The foreign players are what make this league one of the best!

  4. 12:49:
    Man Utd 0-0 Swansea

Not there! Ki Sung-yueng gives the ball away in a very dangerous area, just outside the Swans box, but Ashley Young can’t find Wayne Rooney through the middle. Manchester United on top, looking after the ball well as they settle into their new shape.

Italian journalist and transfer specialist Tancredi Palmeri on Twitter:“Manchester United have offered 30m euros for Roma’s defender Mehdi Benatia. Manchester United expect Roma’s reply about offer for Benatia early next week.”

  6. 12:47:
Disallowed goal – Leeds 0-0 Middlesbrough

Bizarre decision at Elland Road. A long throw into the Leeds box is inadvertently flicked on to the far post by home defender Liam Cooper and Boro midfielder Albert Adomah brilliantly bicycle kicks the ball into the net.

He starts celebrating only for the linesman’s flag to rule out the effort. What for? I’m not sure but it might be for a high foot as defender Stephen Warnock was trying to head the ball away. Harsh.

  7. 12:47:
    Vote result

It appears you don’t think that the title is heading to Manchester this season.Chelsea are your favourites to win the Premier League title, with 34.3% of Football Focus viewers voting for them. Arsenal got 20.3% of the vote and Liverpool received 18.6%.

  8. 12:46:
    Man Utd 0-0 Swansea

Positive start from Jesse Lingard, as the right wing-back bursts past his man and gets a cross over. It’s well blocked, but the youngster showed real pace down the right-hand side.

Phil Jones is very wide in the back three, on the right.

    Half-and-half scarves – the debate rages…

Carolyn Holt: Surely the majority of people at a match are supporting one team? Would you want to wear the colours of another team?!

Liam Stones: I’m a fan of the half/half scarves, they’re a way of remembering events without buying an expensive programme.

    Paper round

    Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw has yet to make his full-blooded Manchester United debut, but The Times football editor Tony Evans has already questioned the wisdom of the Old Trafford hierarchy shelling out £27m for him, suggesting his current injury lay-off may not be his last.

“Perhaps a big-money move and a huge pay cheque has come too soon for this 19-year-old,” Evans writes.

“For all his talent, the left back was high maintenance at Southampton. His diet and lifestyle were kept under close scrutiny. It was less a matter of discipline than a young man who had not realised the importance of taking care of his body if he is to have a long career.

“He may not get such care and attention at a big club who have a clutch of big stars. He needs to grow up quickly.”

Former England defender Danny Mills on BBC Radio 5 liveMan Utd v Swansea (12:45 BST)

“It’s a big 90 minutes for Phil Jones to show he can shine at centre-back and make the position his own after being shunted around the pitch. The same can probably be said for Chris Smalling as well.

“But I still think Louis Van Gaal needs a big, strong and commanding centre-back to play in the middle of those two players if he is going to play three at the back.”

Wayne Rooney leads the Manchester United side out to rich applause at Old Trafford. It’s not quite ull, interestingly, which may have something to do with those problems on the M6.
