Somali oil and gas summit will be held in London on October 20, 2014 whereby the intentional oil and gas giants will meet Somali leadership for future investment opportunities. The Somali federal government Ministry of Petroleum & Mineral Resources of the Federal Republic of Somalia has confirmed that the 2nd Somalia Oil & Gas Summit will take place on Monday, 20th October at the Jumeirah Carlton Hotel. The event will look into the latest seismic activity delivered by Soma Oil & Gas, review the unexplored hydrocarbon potential of Somalia and showcase the opportunities for investment in the country. The 2nd Somalia Oil & Gas Summit is being endorsed by the Ministry of Petroleum & Mineral Resources of the Federal Republic of Somalia who is inviting all the interested parties to attend the summit.  The Key distinguished speakers leading by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud reviewing the Underexplored Hydrocarbon Sector opportunities in Somalia.  

 

H.E. Daud Mohamed from the ministry of petroleum and mineral resource reviewing the Underexplored Hydrocarbon Sector.Abdillahi Haider speaking about Hydrocarbon Potential of Somalia: Identifying the Attractiveness of the Collected Seismic Data. Dr Abdullahi Haider got his PhD in Mineral exploration from the school of geology at the Polytechnic of Lorraine in France.  As a lecturer, he taught bachelor courses and conducted research studies on the geology of Somalia at the Somali National University.  In early nineties, Dr. A. Haider won a royal society fellowship and conducted research at Milton Keynes Open University.  He worked at the geological survey of Denmark. As a senior adviser to the Ministry of Water, Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Resources; he worked closely with the petroleum team for the development of oil and gas explorations in Somalia.

 

Dr. Mohamed Hagi Senior Resource Economist, Ministry of Petroleum & Mineral Resources Federal Republic of Somalia speaking about Hydrocarbon Potential of Somalia: Identifying the Attractiveness of the Collected Seismic Data.Dr Mohamed Ali-Nur Hagi is an Animal Scientist and has multidisciplinary background spanning from the fields of Animal Science, Development Studies and International Business. During the Somali Roadmap, Dr Hagi became the Chairman of the Political Outreach and Reconciliation of the Technical Subcommittee of the Somalia Roadmap and September 2011 co-signed the Somali Roadmap that ended the Transition in Somalia. 

 

Dr Abdulkadir Abiikar Hussein Head of the Exploration Department, Ministry of Petroleum & Mineral Resources Federal Republic of Somalia. Dr Abdulkadir Abiikar Hussein is currently the Director of Hydrocarbon Exploration of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. Before joining the Ministry, he was consultant to Monsoon Resources and London Global Energy. He was involved in evaluating the resources and the potential of diverse regions and basins of Somalia. Mr. Hussein has more than 30 years of practising geology in different ways. Prior to that, Mr Hussein was involved in geological engineering and geo-technical works of mega construction works such as the construction of Kuala Lumpur International Airport of Malaysia where he advised material sourcing, aggregates and quarries, concrete production and served as the quality control/ assurance manager of Cosmos Sdn Bhd.

 

Prof Ahmed Nur. Department of Geology Moddibo Adama University of technology, Yola Nigeria speaking about Hydrocarbon Potential of Somalia: Identifying the Attractiveness of the Collected Seismic Data. Professor Ahmed Nur gained in 1981 admission to study Geology at the Somali National University in Mogadishu. He graduated in January, 1986 with first class (Hons) degree and joined the Department of Geology as an Assistant Professor. In January 1988 he travelled to then the West Germany to attend an advanced course on computer aided exploration geophysics sponsored by the Carl Duisberg Gesselschaft (CDG). He returned to Mogadishu in May 1989 and continued his academic activities. January 1989; he got admission and travelled to Nigeria for Postgraduate Programme in Geophysics where he obtained M.Sc. and Ph.D. both in Applied Geophysics. His studies in Nigeria was sponsored the by the German Exchange Service (DAAD

 

Dr Hassan A. Hussein PhD, Senior Trainer/Advisor ARAMCO, Saudi Arabia speaking about Hydrocarbon Potential of Somalia: Identifying the Attractiveness of the Collected Seismic Data. Dr. Hassan A. Hussein holds a PhD Degree in Exploration Geology from Technical University of Berlin, Germany. He has also two Masters from Ohio State University, USA and University of Khartoum, Sudan. Dr. Hussein has +15 years of multidisciplinary experience in academia and industry. Earlier Dr. Hassan worked in Academia for +10 years in different countries (Somalia, UAE, USA, Sudan and Germany). He taught several professional long- and short-term oil industry and regular geosciences courses. He has published +15 publications in peer reviewed international Journals, conferences & workshops.

 

Among the foreign experts to speak about the summit include Dr Alirio Parra Member of the Board CWC Group Ltd. Former Minister of Energy & Mines Venezuela reviewing the Underexplored Hydrocarbon Sector. Dr Alirio A Parra was Venezuela’s Minister of Energy and Mines from 1992 to 1994 and head of its OPEC delegation. He is a past President of the OPEC Conference and of the Latin American Energy Organisation (OLADE). As Minister of Energy and Mines he was Chairman of the Stockholders Assembly of PDVSA.

 

Jay Park QC Managing Director Petroleum Regimes’ Advisory Ltd speaking about Oil & Gas Potential: Investment Opportunities & Update on Petroleum Law.Jay Park QC is the Managing Partner of Petroleum Regimes Advisory and Park Energy Law.  Jay has practised energy law for over thirty years, with a specific focus on creating optimum petroleum regimes for states, and advising companies and states on upstream oil & gas transactions.  He has advised oil and gas producers, marketers, pipeline companies, governments, banks and multilateral agencies such as the World Bank. His practice has included drafting petroleum legislation and regulations, oil & gas asset acquisitions and divestments, advising on production sharing agreements and concession agreements, and joint venture and participation agreements.

 

Robert Sheppard. Chief Executive Officer Soma Oil & Gas speaking about Oil & Gas Potential speaking about Investment Opportunities & Update on Petroleum Law.D r. Sheppard joined Soma Oil & Gas as CEO in July 2013. He is a Non-Executive Director of the Blackrock Emerging Europe Trust since 2010 and is a Director of DTEK Holding BV, the largest private energy company in the Ukraine. Mr. Sheppard is also a senior adviser to BP on Russia and the FSU. He served on the Board of TNK-BP until 2008 and was President of Sidanco prior to the merger that created TNK-BP. In his 40 plus years in the energy business, Mr. Sheppard has been the President of Amoco’s operations in Argentina and Egypt as well as Managing Director of GUPCO (Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company) and was Amoco’s Vice President for the UK North Sea in the late 80s. Mr. Sheppard graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1972 and has a Bachelor’s degree in Physics and Mathematics. He graduated from the Columbia University Business School in 1991 with an Executive MBA degree.

 

Conrad Thorpe OBE. CEO Salama Fikira speaking about special Addresses: Lessons Learned from Other Oil & Gas Producing Countries & Commercial Oil Companies. Conrad Thorpe has over 30 years international risk management experience from all over the world including 10 years of commercial experience from The Horn of Africa. Conrad was born and brought up in East Africa and having served four tours with the Special Boat Service he resigned his commission early to set up Salama Fikira for the purpose of providing international security and risk management services across the continent. Mr. Thorpe has a master’s degree in War Studies & Defence Technology and speaks fluent Kiswahili with an excellent understanding of Bantu and Cushitic cultures.  He is the CEO of the Group.

 

Alastair Milne Vice President, Exploration Sub-Saharan Africa Shell speaking about Special Addresses: Lessons Learned from Other Oil & Gas Producing Countries & Commercial Oil Companies. Alastair Milne is Shell’s Vice President, Exploration Sub-Saharan Africa, and is responsible for oil and gas exploration activities in Benin, Gabon, Namibia, Nigeria, Somalia, South Africa and Tanzania including offshore Zanzibar. He is based in The Hague, and has worked for Shell for more than 20 years in locations such as The Netherlands, Turkey, Oman, UK and Libya. The majority of his career has been in Exploration, but he has also had assignments in Gas & Power, and in Technology.Alastair is a geologist, and has a MA from Cambridge University and a Ph.D. from the Open University, and he worked for 6 years at the British Antarctic Survey before joining Shell.

 

Willy Olsen. Senior Advisor INTSOK Associate Director CWC Group Ltd speaking about Special Addresses: Lessons Learned from Other Oil & Gas Producing Countries & Commercial Oil Companies. Willy H Olsen is senior advisor to INTSOK, a foundation established by the Government and the Norwegian Oil and Gas industry. He joined the organisation after retiring from Statoil in 2003.  He is also a senior associate in the CWC Group. Willy H Olsen held a number of positions during his 23 years with Statoil, and was a senior advisor to the President of Statoil for five years and head of the President’s Office before his retirement. Willy H Olsen is a member of the Norwegian EITI board. He is an economist from Oslo University and spent 15 years in journalism, broadcasting and newspapers, before joining Statoil. As a journalist he closely monitored the development of the Norwegian hydrocarbon sector during the 1970s. Mr Olsen has in recent years advised governments, national and international oil companies as well as service companies and civil society organisations on issues like local content strategies, national oil company strategies, revenue management and transparency/governance as well as geopolitical challenges. He is running international training programs on the strategy of national oil companies, and on how to implement the best local content policies. He is frequently used as a speaker at major oil and gas conferences around the world. 

 

Dr David Spofforth Senior Explorationist CGG speaking about Oil & Gas Potential: Investment Opportunities & Update on Petroleum Law. Dr David Spofforth holds a PhD in Geochemistry from the University of Southampton. He also has an MSc in Exploration Geophysics from the University of Leeds and a Masters degree from the University of Oxford. Dr Spofforth has worked in the oil industry for over 5 years, initially specialising in applying sequence stratigraphic principals to regional exploration, he is now Senior Explorationist at GeoSpec, CGG, leading their integrated multi-disciplinary geological studies around the globe. He is currently focused on enhancing GeoSpec’s extensive datasets across Africa and using these to better understand the petroleum geology of new frontiers.
